Azul Guaita, best known for her role as Jana Cohen in the series Rebelrevealed in the podcast I Am All I Am, of Manu Barrios, who was the victim of abuse by a family member throughout his childhood.
The young actress narrated that the abuse began when she was only three years old and stopped until she was 12. Unfortunately, her attacker is still at large.
Azul decided to tell his experience to help those who have gone through a similar situation, because he wants to let them know that they are not alone and that they can get ahead despite the pain.
I feel like it’s something I want to tell because I know a lot of people have been through this. I was abused from the age of three to the age of 12 or 13… I know that many people have gone through that and I want to get something good out of it, which is to share it. Until I understood what had happened to me, I was able to talk about it, first with friends and now with the whole world.
I felt very guilty for never saying it, for not doing anything about it, I felt it was my fault because I left, but I was little and I didn’t know what was happening. They told me ‘let’s play hide and seek and we weren’t playing hide and seek, and I feel like that happens to a lot of people. Being able to talk about it might help someone not feel guilty.
The actress continued her testimony, narrating that it was difficult for her to understand what was happening and that she was not guilty of anything. Her friends played a very important role in this last point, as they ended up becoming the support she needed so much to raise her voice and move on.
A lot of people put us down for not talking before… I’ve never been able to take it to the authorities because of the whole issue that if it happened a c*ngo ago it doesn’t work anymore if you don’t have proof, and apart from that I don’t want to see it. Going to court and having to see him is something I have not been able to do. Many people very close to me have told me ‘yes, but why not instead of telling me you take it to the police’, and it’s like ‘it’s not that easy’.
Azul revealed that her attacker is someone very close to her family and although she has tried to denounce him and obtain justice, it has not been possible, since there is no current evidence that she can present before the law.
The most impactful thing about her case is that her own family has taken it upon herself to cover up her attacker, a situation that has led her to distance herself from them for mental and emotional health.
If either of them had said something, it wouldn’t have happened to me. He is someone from my family, he is distant but from the family. My family already knows, but there are many people who continue to take care of him and take care of him saying ‘he is alone because his mother just died’.
I don’t understand how they can take care of a person who has done it not only with me, he still couldn’t understand that they continue to take care of him as if he hadn’t done anything, and still hearing his name bothers me, it gives me enormous impotence… Many people don’t understand that I don’t feel protected by my family.
After Azul’s testimony, his fans They ran to their social networks to leave messages of support and love. At the moment, the actress has not revealed any more information regarding her attacker, but the authorities are expected to contact the actress to open a legal file on her case and give her the justice that she so deserves.
