2023 has begun with a clear increase in supermarket prices and evidence that indicates that, even if they tell us no, we are in a recession. In this scenario, there is a certain population that is particularly affected, such as families with children, and any benefit is of great help.
In this sense, Social Security offers a benefit, regulated within the Minimum Vital Income Law implemented in 2022, known as “child support” and intended to support low-income families and dependent children.
One of the good news that these families will receive is that, just as the Minimum Vital Income has increased by 15%, this benefit has also seen an improvement. The first thing to keep in mind is that, although the maximum goes from 100 euros per minor to 115 eurosthe amount that the beneficiaries of the benefit will receive will depend on the age of the dependent children.
Thus, people with dependent minors between the ages of 6 and 18 will receive aid of 57.50 euros per month. The aid rises to 80.50 euros per month for each child between 3 and 6 years of age and, finally, it will be 115 euros per month for those with children under three years of age.
Despite being a benefit conceived within the Minimum Vital Income, it is possible to request it even if said income is not received. Those who have 300% of the guaranteed IMV income for their type of household, IMV recipients, beneficiaries of the economic allowance for a dependent child or minor without disability or with a disability of less than 33 can request it, provided they meet the the necessary conditions for access to the child support supplement.
In any case, and to make it easier, Social Security has a simulator on its website, enabled by the National Institute of Social Security (INSS), which will let you know if you are entitled to this help.
