All women of reproductive and working age have at some point faced the complicated reality of going to work with different menstrual problems, which turn our working day into a real martyrdom.
An initiative has recently been presented and approved in the Congress of Mexico City to grant paid leave to menstruating women and people with disabling menstrual dysmenorrhea, that is, for when they suffer from very strong cramps.
With 45 votes in favor, the Congress of Mexico City approved the reforms so that work leave becomes a reality for workers and menstruating people who have been diagnosed with disabling menstruation, who will be able to enjoy a permit of up to three days per month, without this affecting your salary, seniority, payment of premiums, vacations, bonuses, incentives or other acquired labor rights.
According to the new law, when the menstruating worker or person is unable to carry out their workday normally due to their menstrual period, they can choose between three options: carry out their workday remotely, carry out their workday with reduced hours or Acquire a paid leave of absence.
If the worker or menstruating person chooses to request leave with pay, then she must present a medical certificate issued by a gynecology specialist attesting to the condition.
The proposal has also included granting one day of leave a year, without it being considered a work absence, so that workers can go for studies, such as pap smears and mammograms. While in the case of men, this day will be used to perform the prostate cancer study.

Let’s remember that on December 15, the Spanish Parliament also approved a sexual and reproductive health law that offers paid leave to women who suffer painful periods.
The issue in Mexico City has not yet been put into practice, but it has already generated great controversy, since there will always be people who speak out against and in favor of when changes are implemented, so comments will not be long in coming.
