Telmo Irureta has won the Goya for Best New Actor for his role in ‘The Rite of Spring’ by Fernando Franco. The actor plays David, a young man with cerebral palsy who meets Laura (Valèria Sorolla), a university student who has just arrived in Madrid and with whom he begins a complex relationship in which both will mature and grow as people.
Irureta was born in 1989, is 34 years old and is from Zumaya (Guipúzcoa). Like his character in the movie, he has had cerebral palsy since he was two years old due to encephalitis. He graduated in Teaching and is about to start Psychology.
The actor, who in addition to cinema is also dedicated to theater and monologues, is nephew of actress Elena Irureta, the star of ‘Patria’, who has also been the one who has given her the award. Irureta has won the Goya by competing against Albert Bosch (‘Alcarràs’), Jordi Pujol (‘Alcarràs’), Mikel Bustamante (‘Cinco Little Wolves’) and Christia Checa (‘En los márgenes’).
