After it was announced that, as part of a restructuring, Disney will make massive layoffs of workers this year, Bob Iger, CEO of the company, announced that among his next projects will be Frozen 3, Toy Story 5 and Zootopia 2. And although for many fans this news is very exciting, others are dissatisfied.
I’m pleased to announce today that our animation studios have several sequels in the works to our most popular franchises: ‘Frozen,’ ‘Toy Story,’ and ‘Zootopia.’ We will announce more about these productions very soon, but they are a good example of how we are leaning on our unrivaled brands and franchises.
This February 8, Bob confirmed the sequels to his three most profitable animated titles, shortly after it was reported that the company will cut 3.2 percent of its workforce, laying off at least seven thousand workers for the purpose of reduce costs and save 5.5 billion dollars.
The announcement of the sequels is intended to be a safe step, confident that the company will be able to recover from the collection obtained by the last original films that were on the tightrope at the box office, such as Charm and A strange world. Similarly, it is speculated that they intend to recover from the recent loss of Disney + subscribers.
With the new deliveries of Frozen, Toy Story and zootopia, the least sympathetic to the fans was the idea of making a fifth sequel to toy storyWell, they assure that if a fourth film was not necessary, much less a fifth.
Among the reactions and responses to this announcement, they highlight that the fourth tape “was quite bad” and that the best thing would be to cancel number five, while others believe that it had a good ending and that another one is unnecessary. However, the plot of the story is unknown so far and it is also unclear if all the characters will be back.
On the other hand, the CEO of Disney announced that more details will be revealed later, since, for now, the three sequels are in development.
