I will not deny it: I much more fancy a movie about the publicists of a James Cameron that does not stop giving statements that ‘Avatar 3’. Every day, the director has something new to tell and with which to exacerbate the hype for his work. Y one of his maxims is to compare himself with Marvel and DC. Why? Because he is well aware of what makes headlines.
James “Empowerment” Cameron
Neither short nor lazy, in Variety he has stated that his movie is much more empowering for women than all superhero movies. And it’s not the typical trivial thing, because it brings ‘Wonder Woman’ and ‘Captain Marvel’ to the fore, but in the end he still believes that ‘Avatar: The Sense of Water’ is the most feminist because “Well, if we go to the bottom of female empowerment, let’s have a female warrior who is six months pregnant and fighting“.
It doesn’t happen in our society, possibly it hasn’t happened for centuries. But I guarantee you, back in the day women had to fight for survival and protect their children, and it didn’t matter if they were pregnant. And pregnant women are more capable of being athletic than we culturally accept. I thought “Let’s remove the limits”. For me, it was the last frontier that you don’t see. Wonder Woman and Captain Marvel, all these fabulous women have appeared, but they are not mothers and they are not pregnant while fighting evil.
James Cameron created Sarah Connor, evolved into Lieutenant Ripley, knows a lot to fall into saying that the women of ‘Avatar’ are extremely empowered because they are mothers and they are also pregnant. The more mother, the more empowered? And be careful, everything is said: in the sequel, the female characters are much more interesting than in the first part (it was not difficult, on the other hand), but it does not justify this boutade. James Cameron, of course, is becoming empowered and revealing himself as a cunning creator of absurd polemics during this presentation tour.
