The first season of ‘Andor’ has just finished and, as we are getting used to this type of franchise production more and more, after the credits we have a scene. A quite interesting post-credits since it links perfectly with one of the most important events and scenarios of all Star Wars.
By the way, if you haven’t seen the end of ‘Andor’, refrain from reading any further.
As you know, ‘Andor’ is intended as a prequel to ‘Rogue One: A Star Wars Story’, a film that, in turn, served as a bridge to ‘Star Wars’ (or ‘A New Hope’). to explain how they got the plans for the Death Stardestroyed by Luke Skywalker in an impossible mission.
On the other hand, we know that the second season of ‘Andor’ will take us directly to the events which are recounted in the aforementioned film by Gareth Edwards with a script by Tony Gilroy, so we did not rule out that there was some mention of events from the future… and so it has been.
From Narkina 5 to the Death Star
In the post-credits scene we see some robots assembling pieces in a construction in space. These pieces sound familiar to us, they are exactly the same that Cassian Andor and the rest of the prisoners spent building in Narkina 5 prison (which we visit between episodes 6 and 8).
Already there we have the first suspicions about what is happening… and little by little, the camera moves away to discover that, indeed, they are pieces for the construction of the greatest weapon that the Empire has built: the planet-destroying Superlaser that is the jewel in the crown of the, still under construction, Mobile Battle Station. Better known as the Death Star.
A revelation that, in the words of Tony Gilroy, it was something thought at a fairly early stage of the script:
“We came up with the prison and building part thing pretty early on. He was like, “Oh, they should be building the Death Star.” And so, you know, moving on and it was like, “Oh, you know what, we need to show that.” So the visual effects department loved the idea. And they went with it.”
It’s not the first time we’ve seen the Death Star under construction, since during the prequels they already showed us the mega space station. Here, however, a few years have passed and we already see it in its final phase of construction.
Now the question remains as to whether season 2 will follow this thread tangentially Or if it remains a mere nod to the fans of the series and the movie, but it is even poetic that, in part, Cassian has contributed to the most lethal machine in the galaxy.
