Now completely detached from Michael Bay, trying to start a new phase with which to continue exploiting the franchise, ‘Transformers: Rise of the Beasts’ has been released. A strange mix of prequel and reboot after about six films that were already divisive in their Explosive action-packed junk show.
Certainly the name of Transformers is synonymous with action and science fiction in a big way, and only for the obvious factor that we find giant robots fighting. They are not the only examples, since we have here three great movies with this class of metallic heroes that can be enjoyed in streaming. Whether you’re into Bay’s movies or not, here’s big fun.
‘Robot Jox’ (1990)
Address:Stuart Gordon. Distribution: Gary Graham, Anne-Marie Johnson, Paul Koslo, Robert Sampson, Danny Kamekona, Hilary Mason.
It still remained for Hollywood to decide to bring the Transformers to the big screen, although they were already highly successful toys and a memorable animated series. Enough to inspire Stuart Gordon in a funny movie loaded with sense of wonder but doomed to commercial failure due to the circumstances of the production company Empire.
The studio’s bankruptcy in the middle of the process killed its viability, which was already limited by its character as a niche fantasy film and B-movie. Its delay in its release made its references to the Cold War, which sustain the main conflict in these international robotic gladiator duels. Even so, a very estimable film and with enough sense of humor.

‘The iron giant’ (‘The Iron Giant’, 1999)
Address: Brad Bird. Distribution: Vin Diesel, Jennifer Aniston, Harry Connick Jr., James Gammon, John Mahoney, Christopher McDonald.
A must see animated film which grows out of the same unlikely relationship between an ordinary boy and a huge alien robot that has unexpectedly arrived on earth. Brad Bird gambled big with an original science fiction proposal outside of studios like Disney (in which he was a child prodigy) or the emerging Pixar of which he would later be a part.
In the aforementioned Pixar confirmed what can already be seen here. We are facing a master of animation, with the ability to amaze all audiences with his enormous pacifist story. Very heir to the classic fantastic cinema, but with an eye to the future in regards to the technique of the animated medium. A very complete experience that makes it one of the best movies of its year.

‘Pacific Rim’ (2013)
Address: Guillermo del Toro. Distribution: Charlie Hunnam, Idris Elba, Rinko Kikuchi, Charlie Day, Diego Klattenhoff.
The best thing about ‘Pacific Rim’ is that it perfectly combines ideas that would fit in ‘Transformers’, a legacy of oriental kaijus and American blockbuster cinema. Guillermo del Toro does his best blockbusters and one of his best moviesbut the best, maintaining an excessive and crazy ambition within a tape that is truly accessible to everyone.
It’s not just a loud and blinding spectacle with mountains of CGI, but everything manages to have a certain texture and even moments of soul, which is what is often missing in many blockbusters that feel like opening a bag of potatoes and almost everything is air. . Del Toro’s magic helps make it seem simple an elaborate work of craftsmanship done on a hypertrophied scale.
