To wear a bra or not, that is the question. There are those who yes or yes need to carry the chest fastened, either because of its size it is annoying but or simply because they prefer to carry it. There are also those who once tried going without a bra and have practically never put one on again (something very common after the 2020 quarantine). And there are those who alternate between wearing it and not wearing it.
Whatever your case, there are two indisputable truths: that Whether or not to wear a bra is a strictly personal decision., in which no one else should get involved, and that the importance of choosing a bra that fits us well is inversely proportional to how well we each know our size. And we don’t blame anyone. We know that it is difficult to choose our size well: what if the cup, what if the contour, what if it changes from one to another depending on the type of neckline… A continuous dance of numbers and letters in which we often get lost.
In a very recurring topic that we have talked about on numerous occasions -back in the day we made a bra size equivalence guide so as not to die trying and from time to time we have already given advice on knowing how to choose the right bra size-, but of which we do not mind repeating ourselves due to its importance. So taking advantage of the campaign “Do you know how to measure yourself?” that Women’ secret has launched, we have once again returned to the subject.
How to measure yourself to know your bra size
Only those who have been working in underwear stores for years can calculate -and hit- the bra size by eye, so go for the meter and measure yourself. You need two measurements:
- to know the Cup wrap the measuring tape around your chest just at the height of the nipples, a little above (A)
- to know the outline wrap around your torso just below your chest, neither too tight nor too loose (B).
The magic of equivalent sizes
In bras we also talk about something called “equivalent sizes”. A “last resort” that we can use sometimes if we can’t find our size. To get it we have to start from our own size and from there, play with the cup and the contour, but always following an order:
- If we raise the cup we must lower the contour. For example, if we normally have a 90B, we can also use an 85C (more cup, less contour).
- If we raise the contour we must lower the cup. For example, if we normally have a 90B, we can also use a 95 (less cup, more contour).
Of course, this is only for special occasions, so take it more as an “exception” than as a “rule”.
Which bra suits me best?
Although size is undoubtedly the most important, it is also interesting know the shapes and necklines of the bras to know how to choose the one that best suits us and the one that best suits our needs. Those who have a very large chest (who, as a general rule, tend to look for bras that gather and hold their chest very well) are not looking for the same thing as those who have a somewhat smaller chest (in which case sometimes the push up may be a possibility that arise).
