make it a real surprise

“I don’t read the manga,” the actress confessed. “It would still be better if I did, but my style is to act with that feeling of surprise. To be able to do that… ‘Oh, what’s happening!’ that comes out when you first read the script, and see the art for the first time too.”
Taking into account how Luffy is, this type of interpretation is not even painted. Tanaka has been doing a spectacular job in anime for two decades already, so there is certainly no complaining about his decision if it helps him to better focus the character.
Despite not reading the manga, Tanaka is still a big fan of it. ‘OnePiece’ and hopes to continue dubbing Luffy until the end of the series or until the body lasts.
