The CDMX facing a critical situation due to the extreme drought that has affected the supply of this vital liquid to hundreds of municipalities. In the midst of the crisis, and in the context of the Holy Week 2024the government of Mexico City has informed residents about the consequences and fines that will be imposed by throw water he Saturday of Glory.
With the arrival of the Easter and the Saturday of Glorythe tradition of throwing water on people with the aim of washing away their sins, was followed to the letter in several regions of the country and in the CDMX. However, in recent years with the extreme drought and climate change, this tradition has been banned and may even be subject to fines.
The CDMX will impose fines for throwing water during the Holy Saturday of Holy Week.
During this Easter and the Saturday of Glorythe Government of the CDMXlaunches an alert to citizens regarding the waste of water and the sanctions that represent throw water on the street. In accordance with the regulations of Mexico City, Law of the Right to Access, Disposal and Sanitation of the Water -in its Article 110, section XIII- and the Law of Civic Culture, sanctions and fines for wasting this vital liquid, as well as making improper use of public hydrants.
In accordance with the Law on the Right to Access, Disposal and Sanitation of the Water of Mexico City, the reason for the sanction is contemplated in Article 110:
“Wasting water, or not complying with the requirements, standards and conditions of water use established by this Law, its Regulations or the applicable legal provisions.”
Likewise, Article 111 implies that the offenses referred to in the previous article will be administratively sanctioned:
“Wasting water or preventing its use by those who must have access to it in pipes, tanks or water tanks, storage tanks, as well as improperly using public hydrants, obstructing them or preventing their use.”
Therefore, the fines established in the CDMX for those who throw water according to the Law correspond to.
“Fine equivalent to 11 to 40 Units of Measurement, or arrest from 13 to 24 hours or work in favor of the community from 6 to 12 hours.”
Implying that in case of violation of the law, as well as throw waterthe fines are 100 to 300 times the UMA (Unit of Measurement and Update), equivalent in the 2024 from 10,857 to 32,571 pesos, or arrest for 20 to 36 hours, or 10 to 18 hours of community work.
With the extreme drought which faces the CDMXthese sanctions and fines will be in force during the Easter and the Saturday of Glory, as well as during the rest of the year. Therefore, the population is urged not to throw he water and make responsible use of the liquid, avoiding its waste.
