The next May 27 premieres on Disney +, the series Obi-Wan Kenobiand many fans are impatient to see a cameo of their favorite characters
Cameos are all the rage among fans. The intertwined nature of modern franchise storytelling has begun to allow and even further encourage the ability to see familiar faces to fuel fan enthusiasm. And Obi-Wan Kenobi is expected to have a large number of them.
Obi-Wan Kenobi will take viewers on a journey alongside Ewan McGregor’s iconic Jedi Master as he tries to survive the Empire and its Jedi-hunting Inquisitors.
There has been a lot of talk about who will appear in Kenobi, with Hayden Christensen confirmed to reprise his role as Anakin Skywalker/Darth Vader alongside Jimmy Smits as Bail Organa. The story will involve younger versions of Luke Skywalker, and probably Princess Leia, as they get caught up in some sort of imperial conspiracy. However, these would not be the only falls that we could expect to see.
The creatives behind Obi-Wan Kenobi have hinted that the series will present many surprises “wonderful”. With that said, here are some of the biggest names some fans are hoping to see in the next Disney+ series.
Qui Gon Jinn
The most anticipated cameo by fans. After being killed at the hands of Darth Maul in the phantom menace, we have seen Qui Gon Jinn later. In the third season of the animated series Clone WarsQui Gon Jinn comes to Obi-Wan and Anakin as a vision that guides them on the planet Mortis, and also communicates as a Force ghost with Yoda.
Another sign that we could see Qui Gon Jinn is Yoda’s phrase in Revenge of the Sith to Kenobi that he must continue his training and commune with his former master on Tatooine while secretly caring for Luke.
In the first trailer for Obi-Wan Kenobi, fans see his protagonist looking bewildered in a cave presumably on Tatooine. In this shot, he looks up into the camera without showing exactly what he is looking at. This very well could be the place where the Jedi Master played by Neeson makes his return, communicating with his former student for the first time in years.
The emperor
While on the Empire side, we will see Darth Vader and his Inquisitors, it would not be surprising to meet the Emperor, the very actor who brings the character to life recently dropped that he could appear in some way in one of the Star Wars series, he could be here or in Andor.
Perhaps the cameo comes in a scene in the throne room between Palpatine and Vader talking about Obi-Wan being seen somewhere, which allows Anakin to make the decision to go after his former master, something that his current master (and ruler of the Empire) fully approves.
As mentioned above, this would be the smallest cameo, as a larger inclusion of him could take away the emotional weight behind the Anakin/Obi-Wan conflict.
R2-D2 and C-3PO
The two androids are the most recognizable characters in movie history. But why should we wait to see them?
At the end of Revenge of the SithBoth R2-D2 and C-3PO were placed in the service of Bail Organa to work for the Royal House of Alderaan. It’s now been confirmed that the Organa family will play a major role in Obi-Wan, at least early on, so perhaps Kenobi will have a brief interaction with the droids during a meeting with Bail.
It doesn’t have to be anything special, but seeing R2-D2, C-3PO, and Obi-Wan Kenobi in the same room again would be a huge nod to fans of the franchise.
boba fett
The space between the prequels and the original trilogy is a relatively blank page for Boba Fett fans. The iconic bounty hunter (whose own Disney+ series just ended a few months ago) has had adventures in this early era of the Empire, some of which have been explored in the expanded universe of the comics and novels.
In a story that has every bounty hunter and inquisitor, from Mortis to Ryloth, hunting down Ewan McGregor’s legendary Jedi, it would make sense for a teenage Boba Fett to show up. Perhaps his inclusion in the series could hint at the beginnings of his business relationship between him and Jabba the Hutt.
Cal Kestis
It’s only a matter of time before Cal Kestis (Cameron Monoghan) makes his live-action Star Wars debut, and Obi-Wan Kenobi would be the perfect spot. In the timeline, Obi-Wan Kenobi takes place approximately five years after Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Orderso if Cal is looking for other Jedi, it seems that Obi-Wan would be one of the young Jedi’s priorities.
At this point in Star Wars canon, there aren’t many force users left, and the ones that remain are either hiding like Yoda or looking for others. This is not to say that Cal plays a key role in Obi-Wan’s story, but he could appear in some episode to set up Fallen Order 2.
Chewbacca
Next on the list of potential names to appear in Obi-Wan Kenobi is Chewbacca. From what fans know, after the fall of the Republic, Chewie went on the run, eventually ending up captured by the Empire and meeting Han Solo during the events of Solo: A Star Wars Story.
Chewbacca and Obi-Wan apparently first meet aboard the Millennium Falcon in A New Hope, but nothing is said to confirm or deny whether they’ve met before, especially since the Old Republic fought alongside the Wookiees against the Separatists. , and Chewie himself coincided with Yoda on Kashyyyk.
padme
The senator from Naboo played by Natalie Portman has been intertwined with Obi-Wan and Anakin from the moment she appeared on screen.
Many will now question the idea of Padme appearing in the upcoming Disney+ series, as she died giving birth to Luke and Leia at the end of Revenge of the Sith. But it has been mentioned that flashbacks will be part of Obi-Wan Kenobi’s story.
Portman seems set to return, and a flashback featuring her, Christensen, and McGregor could serve as a great nod to prequel fans while also showing Anakin/Vader what he’s lost on his journey to the dark side.
In the Star Wars comics, Vader faces the ghost of Padme, so it wouldn’t be uncommon for it to happen in the series either.
Surely, we will not get to see all these cameos in Obi-Wan Kenobi. However, it would be a luxury to see any of them. Which one would you like to see?
