Prosecutors dismissed a manslaughter charge against Alec Bladwin in the fatal shooting that occurred in 2021 on the set of the movie “Rust”, in turn they added that the actor has not yet been acquitted.
Special prosecutors Kari Morrisey and Jason Lewis assured that an investigation will continue to be active for the involuntary manslaughter charge against Hannah Gutiérrez Reedwho was the weapons supervisor in the film
In a press release, both noted that “during the past few days and in preparation for the preliminary hearing on May 3, 2023, new facts have been revealed that require further investigation and forensic analysis in the case against Alexander “Alec” Rae Baldwin. , III. Accordingly, we cannot proceed with the current time constraints and with the facts and evidence provided by law enforcement in its current form. Therefore, We will be dismissing the manslaughter charges against Mr. Baldwin for further investigation. This decision does not absolve Mr. Baldwin of criminal guilt and charges may be re-filed. Our follow-up investigation will remain active and ongoing.”
Meanwhile, defense attorneys Luke Nikas and Alex Spiro released their own statement stating that “we are pleased with the decision to dismiss the case against Alec Baldwin and encourage a proper investigation into the facts and circumstances of this tragic accident.
Baldwin’s next court appearance had been set for May 3. The actor has already waived his right to appear at the preliminary hearing. He had pleaded not guilty to the charges against which he was charged.
The actor Alec Baldwin, 64, was indicted, along with gunsmith Hanna Gutierrez-Reed, with manslaughter, for the incident that occurred on October 21, 2021 on the set of the film Rustwhere the cinematographer died Halyna Hutchins.
The indictment was unsealed Tuesday, January 31, by the Santa Fe District Attorney’s Office.; Hutchins died hours after Baldwin shot him with a prop gun that was loaded with live ammunition, though he has testified that he did not pull the trigger. The film’s director, Joel Souzawas also injured.
The film’s production company will also resume filming on ‘Rust’ in Montana, 18 months after the shooting. Matthew Hutchins, widower of Halyna Hutchins, joins the project as executive producer. This change is part of the agreement to which Baldwin and Hutchins.
