The history of ‘Lost’ (Lost), which we could define as one of the first global seriéphile phenomena thanks to the Internet, is full of anecdotes regarding its creation. So many that show that what was released in 2004 was a miracle in the form of a series. A series that was about to stay in a television movie.
Something that he told himself JJ Abrams interviewed at the Tribeca Film Festival in 2016. During the talk, the producer, writer-director, talked about the lengthy process of turning an idea, a 22-page outline, into one of the most expensive pilots to date. (estimated to be between 10 and 14 million dollars):
“We practically had 11 weeks to write, cast, shoot, edit, post[producirlo] and deliver it. We had an outline that we had written in a few days. And it was a mess. We were casting what we were writing and we were scouting locations as we finished the script. It was crazy.”
The endless tv movie
And in the midst of that madness, a movement occurred that almost killed the series: Lloyd Braun, the president of ABC that he had not only approved the series but that it was his big bet for the following season, he was fired. In his place came Stephen McPherson, who did not have so much faith in the series co-created by Abrams, Jeffrey Lieber, and Damon Lindelo.F:
“In the middle of shooting, the head of ABC got fired and the new person came in on what we were shooting and said ‘Uh, can you shoot an ending?’ we can air it as a tv movie.’ And I said, ‘If you can tell me how to end this series… with what scene, I’ll record it for you.'”
And it is that how to close a shipwrecked premise on a mysterious island, with black smoke, polar bears and an endless number of, worth the redundancy, unsolvable mysteries. Fortunately, from ABC it seems that they got the message:
“I never heard back. We finished it and they put it on and it worked, but the show was written by Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse and directed by Jack Bender and they ran it for six years and did things we couldn’t have imagined in a million years.” years ago when we created the series.”
What we would have missed.
