It was a day like today but in 1968 when one of the most important Mexican celebrities of the 70s was born and it is nothing more and nothing less than Graciela Mauri, remembered for her role in the telenovela ‘Toy world’.
And it is that personalities like Lucero, Elena Llamas “Tucita”, Evita Muñoz “Chachita”, María Rojo and Angélica María are some of the stars who started their careers being girls, and this is the same case of Mauri.
It was in 1974, when Valentin Pimstein and Luis Reyes de la Maza launched the first telenovela aimed at small audiences in Mexico and selected a beautiful girl to be its protagonist who was immediately immortalized.
Among the applicants, it was Graciela Mauri Villarino, then six years old, who got the role, won the hearts of the public with her tenderness, beauty and unmatched talent.
Pimstein, decided that the little girl, the daughter of immigrant parents from Cubawas ideal to embody the little ‘Cristina Salinas’, who immediately rose to fame and continues to be a world reference for child stars.
The story of “Toy World” narrated the life of a little motherless girl who lives with her father ‘Mariano’ (Ricardo Blume) and his aunt ‘Mercedes’ (Iran Eory)and is internal to a school where she is protected from the sweet novice and teacher ‘Rosario’ (Irma Lozano), being then the architect of the romance between his father and the novice to have a new mother.
Despite the fact that the star was one of the most popular in her childhood, this is what happened to the protagonist after her time on the famous radio soap opera, because now she has not appeared again.
What happened to Graciela Mauri?
Graciela became a phenomenon of popularity never seen before: as she appeared on magazine covers, in commercials, board games and even in a play with Sarah Garcia, in which they made ‘Little Red Riding Hood’ and her grandmother, as well as ‘Big Bad Wolf’ interpreted by Manuel ‘Crazy’ Valdes.
Despite being at the peak of success, the youngest took a break in her career, being her brother who began to have much more relevance, but it was not until 1987 when she returned with a co-leading role in the melodrama ‘How it hurts to shut up’.
In 1989, the star opted for a career as a singer and released a self-titled album that led her to appear on ‘Siempre en domingo’ and to tour, and in one of those she met the businessman Hector Loustaunau, who to date is her husband and with whom she has two children and has been married for almost 30 years.
Today, the actress is retired from show business and He is 55 years old, but she remains widely remembered as one of the most beloved child stars of all time.
