It’s been a long time since a zombie movie was made in Mexico, but you can already see a fresh out of the oven on ViX Plus. We talk about mexzombies, which has already premiered and recently we interviewed its protagonists, who spilled the beans on us about this movie.

If you are a fan of zombies, we have news for you. In ViX Plus you can see now mexzombies, the first Mexican zombie movie to be made in decades. Something wonderful about this film is that the protagonists are a couple of kids, Tavo (Iñaki Godoy) and Cronos (Marcelo Barcelo) who fight to save themselves and their friends from the zombie apocalypse.
We interviewed Iñaki and Marcelo a few days ago, and we were joined in the conversation by two other actors making their debut in mexzombies: Luciana Vale and Vincent Michael Webb, who told us what it was like to be in a Mexican-style zombie movie.
This is what it was like to be in a Mexican zombie movie
Luciana: This is my first project. I know that other Mexican zombie movies had been made many years ago, so it was like being part of something new. That it is also my first project was spectacular, it gives me a feeling of pride.
Marcelo: Summarized in two words: it was beautiful! Not only was making a Mexican zombie movie with young people, the shooting was a very beautiful experience because of the connection we all made.
This was the hardest part for them.
Marcelo: The film was shot in Durango, it’s desert, it’s hot and it was in summer, the blood they put on us was very sticky, in one scene a lot of blood fell on me, it’s almost chocolate and I was like that, with that heat, almost three hours.
Vincent: The hardest thing was waking up early when I had to shoot first thing in the morning (laughs). I like to sleep a lot, when I can I get up until 11 (laughs).
Inaki: For me the hardest thing was working with Vincent (laughs). Seriously, I was having such a good time filming that I didn’t really think about how challenging some things were. Rather, he thought that the next day he was going to fight against thousands of zombies. I was having too much fun to think about anything else.
They weren’t fans of zombies before, but now…
Inaki: I had already seen some zombie movies, but before we started shooting, the director showed us several movies on the subject to see the route he wanted to go. After that I became a fan of the genre, it’s super fun and exciting. The coolest thing of all is that we were able to make a zombie movie in Mexico, that makes it more special.
Luciana: I wasn’t very familiar with the subject, but after doing the homework Iñaki told you about, I loved it. What helped me the most was getting closer to non-zombie projects, like stranger things either The Goonies, who have a more concrete relationship with the world of kids. As an actress those films oriented me more.
Marcelo: I had only seen a zombie movie when I was 10 years old and I was traumatized. I’ve always been very scared, but when they put us to see these movies I liked them, now I can say that I love them.
Vincent: I was scared of zombies, but a few days later, I was killing them! (laughs). I remember a scene where I cut off a zombie’s arm, they had to take a break and gave me a coke to relax. After that, instead of fear I started to enjoy working with zombies more.
