There are many ways to see the Star Wars movies and it is logical that everyone prefers to do it in one way whenever they come back to them. Nevertheless, george lucasthe creator of the legendary science fiction franchise has always been very clear about the order in which we should see them.
For this we have to go back to some statements he made years ago when Vulture wanted to know what it was the correct order to see the 6 films existing at that time. Lucas could not be more clear and resounding in his response:
Start with 1. That’s the right way to do it: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6. That’s how it’s supposed to be done. Just because it took so long to do doesn’t mean you don’t do it in order.
To be fair, it stands to reason that the creator of ‘Star Wars’ would prefer viewers to watch it in chronological order even though the second trilogy is a prequel to the first. Obviously, that totally changes the experience of a first viewingabout which the filmmaker also spoke at the time during the ‘Revenge of the sith’ campaign in Rolling Stone:
The first movies are about Luke redeeming his father, so Luke is the focus. But it’s also about Princess Leia and her fight to restore the Republic, which is what her mother did. So it’s really about mothers and daughters and fathers and sons. So now, instead of all these surprises that aren’t really surprises, when you go back to Episode IV, as soon as Darth Vader walks through that door, and you see Princess Leia with R2, you’re going to be like, “Oh my God, it’s her daughter. Are they going to find out?” And you spend the whole first movie and no one notices a thing. The sleuthing part is mostly done off-screen. The first three episodes are a tragedy, and the second three get a little silly, but they’re inspiring: Even the most evil people find compassion. Darth Vader has compassion for his children, and ultimately, that’s what children are for.
Obviously, this misses the tremendous twist of discovering that Darth Vader is Luke Skywalker’s father at the end of ‘The Empire Strikes Back’, but it is that according to Lucas the important thing is that Vader”he is just a pathetic person who has had a very sad life“…
