As a faithful devotee of the holy church of zack snyderit is totally understandable that one of the dates that I have marked in red in the calendar of this 2023 is December 22. That day, almost like a perfect pre-Christmas gift, Netflix will premiere ‘Rebel Moon’; the new from the director after his departure from the DC Universe in style with his definitive version of ‘The Justice League’.
Two for the price of one
However, what we will receive at the end of the year will be only the first part of Snyder’s space epic, originally conceived as a single feature length of about three hours. This has been confessed by the producer Deborah Snyder in the report dedicated to the project that Vanity Fair has published as an appetizer:
“Originally, the script was a single movie, but it was ‘Zack-esque.’ It was 172 pages”
The mathematics of the world of film scripts tells us that 172 pages would be equivalent to approximately 172 minutes on screen—probably a little more depending on how detailed the writing of the action scenes is—and this length especially worried the head honcho of Netflix’s movie division, Scott Stuber.
“Stuber was like, ‘On the service, movies under two hours work a lot better for some reason,’ even though you can binge-watch an eight-episode series. Zack said, ‘If you ask me to do it in less than two hours, you’ll lose all personality. You won’t care about these characters. It’s a story about how people can change, redemption, and what you’re willing to fight for…’ So he said, ‘How about I give you two movies? ?'”.
In a world that, as Snyder points out, marathons are made with series of about eight hours duration, there should be no problem with releasing a 180-minute film. But, of course, in these times, statistics and algorithms are above creativity.
For now No release date has been released for the second half of ‘Rebel Moon’whose total budget is estimated at 166 million dollars – at 83 million per tape – but Snyder is optimistic and believes that it will not take too long: “It won’t be much later. Netflix can do things that traditional studios can’t when it comes to how close the releases of the movies can be”.
Be that as it may, I leave you with a good handful of images of Vanity Fair’s First Look, in which we can see wheat fields, men covered in sweat, SS officers from outer space and signature abs. You have to love good old Zack.
