michael waldronscreenwriter of Loki Y Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madnesstalked about the future of one of the Marvel Comics characters making his debut in the just released Marvel Studios movie.
Notice of spoilers.
Waldron said that he had always, from the beginning, intended to introduce Clea in one of the film’s post-credits scenes. Also, for those who don’t know her, the writer explained her link to Strange and the villainous Dromammu in the comics.
We always knew we wanted to introduce Clea, who in the comics is, you could say, Doctor Strange’s great love, but in many ways is his formidable equal as a sorceress. The backstory of her is fascinating, she is the niece of Dormammu, the giant floating head from the first movie.
The screenwriter said that to introduce Clea they first needed to close the book on Stephen’s relationship with Christine Palmer.
They have a lot of great adventures in the comics, and we knew we wanted to introduce her, but we felt like we had to close the book to a certain point in her love story with Christine Palmer, Rachel McAdams’ character.
Waldron went on to say that Stephen contemplates Christine’s advice to be open to the idea of loving someone and then, conveniently, Clea arrives.
So Doctor Strange listens to that wisdom from Christine to face his fears and be open to the idea of loving someone and then Clea shows up and I guess we’ll see what happens next between the two of them.
