The Hollywood Academy held the 13th edition of the Governors Awards in Los Angeles last Saturday. Several Honorary Oscars to stars so iconic like Michael J. Fox or filmmaker Peter Weir.
deserved tribute
The awards gala began by awarding the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award to Michael J. Fox. The mythical actor from ‘Back to the Future’ thanked the excited award. “You’re going to make me tremble” he joked upon receiving it. He also spoke about his experience being diagnosed with Parkinson’s at the age of 29 and how the hardest thing for him was dealing with uncertainty.
Woody Harrelson introduced Fox and raved about his friend: “This dude was a master class in comedy.. He turned a chilling diagnosis into a courageous mission. Michael J. Fox never asked for the role of Parkinson’s lawyer but it has been the best performance of him.”
The next to receive an honorary Oscar was the composer Diane Warren. Cher presented the award to the person responsible for songs like ‘I don’t want to miss a thing’ from ‘Armageddon’ or ‘There you’ll be’ from ‘Pearl Harbor’.
For his part, Jeff Bridges presented the following honorary award to Australian filmmaker Peter Weir. The director of ‘The Truman Show’ or ‘The Dead Poets Club’ thanked the award and remembered his partner Robin Williams in his speech.
Finally, Viola Davis presented the last award to Euzhan Palcy. The director of ‘Simeón’ and ‘Una arid white station’ recalled her long experience in the sector and all those times in which she rejected her projects for being black and a woman: “Black women are profitable. Women are profitable. My stories are universal“.
This is how Michael J. Fox, Diane Warren, Peter Weir and Euzhan Palcy received their honorary awards at this special Academy ceremony. There is still time left for the 95th edition of the Oscars, which will be held on March 12, 2023.
