Singer MIA, whose real name is Mathangi ‘Maya’ Arulpragasam, continues to be criticized as she has been for the past two years for the way she has questioned the efficacy of vaccines. designed to contain the effects of the coronavirus. Her detractors, according to her, have oversimplified her vision on such a delicate matter, as can be seen from the interview that the rapper has granted to the newspaper “The Guardian” to clarify her position on the matter.

The British artist has defended her right to approach with skepticism the changes that the world is experiencing and, above all, the guidelines taken from the circles of power. For this reason, she finds it “frustrating” that certain sectors of public opinion have been so extremist with her, dismissing her opinions and “experiences” as if it were mere irresponsible eccentricity.

“The language that people use now to attack anybody is to say, ‘Oh, it’s anti-vaccine,’ and things like that. And no, it’s not”, has defended himself in his conversation with the newspaper. “I know three people who have died of Covid and three others who have died after being given the vaccines. That has happened in my life, it is my experience. If people are going to deny me that experience and try to deceive me into believing the opposite, what is the point of all this?”, he assured to frame his statements in freedom of expression and, above all, in his right to dissent the mainstream.

In fact, MIA has warned about the dangers that, from its point of view, the covert dictatorships of modern society contain, such as the so-called culture of cancellation. For the controversial artist, the world has lost part of its democratic essence through unregulated censorship, which is forged in social networks and directed by a few Internet users who supposedly represent the social majority.

“We have this weird idea that we are all free, that we fight for everything and that we can say what we want. On the other hand, we are curiously seeing more and more examples of the opposite. I think we should have broad and open debates, instead of raising effigies of people and then burning them in the street for something they have said, “he said.

MIA is best known in the music world for songs like “Paper Planes” and “Bad Girls,” but she has always been an artist well known for her controversial political views.
