{"id":96130,"date":"2022-10-12T01:32:49","date_gmt":"2022-10-11T20:02:49","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.imageantra.com\/who-is-angela-alvarez-at-95-she-is-the-longest-running-artist-nominated-for-a-latin-grammy\/"},"modified":"2022-10-12T01:32:49","modified_gmt":"2022-10-11T20:02:49","slug":"who-is-angela-alvarez-at-95-she-is-the-longest-running-artist-nominated-for-a-latin-grammy","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.imageantra.com\/who-is-angela-alvarez-at-95-she-is-the-longest-running-artist-nominated-for-a-latin-grammy\/","title":{"rendered":"Who is \u00c1ngela \u00c1lvarez: at 95, she is the longest-running artist nominated for a Latin Grammy"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<figure class=\"article-image\">\n\t\t\t<figcaption class=\"image-caption\">\n<p>\t\t\t\t\t\u00c1ngela \u00c1lvarez achieved the nomination with her first album. \t\t\t\t<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>\t\t\t\tPhoto: Daniel Boczarski\/The Recording Academy\/Getty Images\t\t\t<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<div>\n<p><strong>Angela Alvarez <\/strong>is a Cuban singer and songwriter, who has always confessed that her love for music was born when she was very young, but currently, thanks to the help of one of her grandchildren, the musician and composer Carlos Jos\u00e9 \u00c1lvarez, she managed to jump to professional music.<\/p>\n<p>Historically, \u00c1lvarez achieved <strong>a Latin Grammy nomination at age 95<\/strong>having managed to record his first album just in 2021.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-4-3 wp-has-aspect-ratio\">\n<p>\n<iframe title=\"El Regreso\" width=\"788\" height=\"591\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/uIhN3RdS-ks?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/p>\n<\/figure>\n<p>In recent years, the Cuban singer offered <strong>their first concert at the iconic \u00c1valon theater<\/strong> of the Angels. <\/p>\n<p>He learned to play guitar and compose when he was 15 years old, but <strong>his father did not agree<\/strong> with his dream of dedicating himself to music, so he forgot about it for a while.<\/p>\n<p><center\/><\/p>\n<p>In May 1962 he had to make a key decision in his life, he had to <strong>see how their four youngest children left Cuba alone <\/strong>to Miami, because an airport worker denied him permission to board the plane. <\/p>\n<p>Angela&#8217;s family had made the decision to<strong> flee the island because of the communist trend<\/strong> that the revolution was on, but their children had to undertake the journey alone and were taken in by \u201cOperation Peter Pan\u201d, which allowed minors to enter the United States alone.<\/p>\n<p>Three months later,<strong> Angela was able to travel<\/strong>but years would pass before he could live with his children on the same roof, since he did not have a job. <\/p>\n<p><strong>I didn&#8217;t know how to speak English<\/strong> so she had to take any job like picking tomatoes in the fields or cleaning offices at night. <\/p>\n<p>Over time, she was able to visit her children at the orphanage in the town of Pueblo, Colorado.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-4-3 wp-has-aspect-ratio\">\n<p>\n<iframe title=\"Romper El Yugo\" width=\"788\" height=\"591\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/LBaT0yyAOzE?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/p>\n<\/figure>\n<p>The<strong> family reunification <\/strong>It happened a few years later, thanks to \u00c1lvarez, through a friend, sending a letter to the then president of Mexico, Adolfo L\u00f3pez Mateos, who was helping Cuban families leave the island. <\/p>\n<p>In that letter he asked for power <strong>take her husband out of Cuba<\/strong>, who was an engineer and worked in the sugar industry, giving him a job and a house in Mexico;  then \u00c1lvarez and his children moved with him to the Aztec nation. <\/p>\n<p><center\/><\/p>\n<p>But, <strong>exile and longing for Cuba <\/strong>It is always present in the heart of \u00c1lvarez, something that is manifested in his songs such as \u201cUn canto a mi Cuba\u201d, \u201cRomper el yugo\u201d or \u201cA\u00f1oranzas\u201d. <\/p>\n<p>The tragedy also had an impact on her work, her husband died in 1977 of cancer, for whom she wrote the song &#8220;Camino sin direction&#8221; and later, after the death of her daughter Mar\u00eda for the same cause, she composed a song that bears her name.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Keep reading:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><center\/><\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>\u00c1ngela \u00c1lvarez achieved the nomination with her first album.
