If this summer (or at any other time of the year) you have a trip to the United States scheduled, there is something that you should know in advance and that you probably do not know is the boarding pass SSSS code. We anticipate that it is not something exactly good, but do not worry that we give you all the details below.

SSSS stands for “Second Security Screen Selection” (Secondary Security Screening Selection in English) and it is the way that the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) selects the passengers of the airlines that will have to go through more exhaustive control than others at the airport.

If you check your boarding pass and see that this code appears, you have had the bad luck that you have to go through an extra control that could last between 15 and 45 minutes and make you miss the flight. This applies even if you have contracted a service that allows you to access the plane more quickly. There is no way to get free.

However, it is not only important to know this detail to be able to calculate the time in advance with which to go to the airport, also because we can get a good scare if we don’t understand what is happening.

Normally, when you have had to go through this control (which is also called “quadruple”), you will not be able to check-in online or at the self-check-in machines but you will have to go to the airline counter to have your ticket printed. Then, when your boarding pass is scanned at security, you’ll be asked to stand aside and the process will begin.

To pass the control, they will ask you to remove your shoes and coats. You will also have to put down your electronics and go through a metal detector and body scanner. It also includes a full body search and take of hand and foot signs to search for traces of explosives.

However, we are not only the objects of analysis. Agents will also open your hand luggage and checked baggage whose contents will be taken out of the suitcase and checked in detail.
