Regardless of whoever weighs it —and, judging by the buzz that has been on networks since its premiere—, the third episode of ‘The Last of Us’, titled ‘A long, long time’, will be remembered as one of the great series episodes of this 2023; and there is no review bombing or accusations of “woke filler” —glups— more false than the monkeys of ‘Jumanji’ that serve to discredit its dramatic and narrative achievements.

Spielberg knows

There have been many of us who have strongly praised the work of the showrunners Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann, and the entire team responsible for the piece; but there was a person who decided to congratulate them personally. This was none other than himself Steven Spielberg, who, according to Peter Hoar, director of the episode, sent a letter to Mazin with your very positive impressions.

“‘Well, I didn’t receive it directly, but [una carta de Spielberg] it came to Craig Mazin, the writer of my episode in ‘The Last of Us’; the one of all the episodes. He shared it with me, Nick Offerman, Murray Bartlett and with [el director de fotografía] Eben Bolter. Basically, a bunch of middle-aged men started screaming because their idol had figured out who they were.’ I think he probably already knew who everyone else was, but he didn’t know who I was. And now, probably, it has already been forgotten.”

In addition, during his conversation with The Hollywood Reporter, Hoar did not hesitate to praise Mazin’s work in outlining the script for ‘A long, long time’, considering that the secret of his success is in the way he focuses his attention on the concept of love and not in the gender of its protagonists.

“‘Craig may be straight, but he has the warmest heart. I think that’s partly why [la historia] it’s so universal, because his focus was on love instead of gender.

I’ve had many conversations about the character of Bill. They all say, ‘Well, Bill is a gay man.’ I was like, ‘Well, is he? Could be it. But he hasn’t really defined himself with those words.’ Craig wrote from what he knew, since he had been married a few years. He knew the things that made or failed a relationship, and that’s what was used. They are universal. He didn’t want it to seem like it was just the story of a group of people. I think if that had been the case, it would not have been as successful. would have seemed [una historia] niche”.

The problem is that, where some only see love, others see men, women and strange conspiracies.
