We have officially completed one month of the writers’ strike and in Hollywood no one seems to have the intention of giving up. Of course, the studies, which are already beginning to smell the possible losses on the horizon, have wanted to avoid the perfect storm of the past called “Mecca of Cinema” calming the waters with the directors union before they also went on strike. But it is not the only agreement they must reach, and time is running out.

Lights, camera… Hello? Is there someone?

The agreement reached by the DGA includes, among many other clauses, the recognition that AI cannot in any way replace the tasks of a directorthe 76% increase in the residual benefits of streaming and the ban on firearms with live ammunition on sets after what happened on the set of the ill-fated ‘Rust’. Come on, they have achieved it.

Meanwhile, scriptwriters keep picketing waiting for what happens with the possible strike of the union of actors. If the SAG does not approve the possible agreement with the producers and its members give the approval to go on strike, all the Hollywood shoots that still manage to go ahead will stop dead. For the moment, the WGA already affirms that they are not going to move one iota from where they were: they continue asking for exactly the same as on May 1, and The ball is in the roof of the production companies that are already losing money at large.

The previous writers’ strike lasted 100 days, and this time it looks like the lack of understanding with the companies, especially with Netflix, is total. We will have to see if the actors unite this time: since 1980 there have not been such strong union movements and the result of the negotiations that begin on Wednesday is unknown to everyone. If the scriptwriters’ ordeal is going to work or not, it is something that is up in the air. Everyone seems to be making time for the final battle, and it is not at all clear who will emerge victorious.
