When the clock only marked 29 minutes and 50 seconds of play when Berrettini, annoyed at not being able to counteract the dominance to which he had been subjected, approached Rune to say goodbye and immediately left the field wrapped in boos from the fans and with frustration reflected in the face.

A few moments before leaving the court, the Italian had hit the racket against the track due to the discomfort of being overcome.

“This is all strange,” Rune said, annoyed by Berrettini’s attitude. “I was playing very well, I had a perfect match, but I wish him the best“, pointed out the Dane.

Another peculiar aspect occurred during the first set of this match that was interrupted by a surprise rain when Rune led 4-0. The suspension caused the match to stop for about 20 minutes.

In the semifinals this Friday, Holger Rune will face the Australian Alex de Minaur who in his quarterfinal tie beat the Japanese Taro Daniel with a double 6-2 in one hour and 37 minutes.

I am very happy, it was not a pretty tennis today due to the windthey are difficult conditions, I didn’t think about playing my best tennis, but I tried to win as I could and I was able to win”, said De Minaur after eliminating Daniel.

Rune and De Minaur will play their third match against each other, with the previous two won by the Dane.

The other semifinal will be led by the Americans Tommy Paul and Taylor Fritz.

Tommy Paul, seeded seventh, defeated fellow American MacKenzie McDonald with a double 6-2 in 59 minutes of play.

Taylor Fritz, the third seed, defeated his compatriot Frances Tiafoe, the sixth seed, in two sets with a score of 6-3 and 6-4 in one hour and 35 minutes.

This Friday’s semifinal will be the fourth meeting between the two Americans, with a victory for Paul and two for Fritz.
