Netflix is not the only company that walks something like a headless chicken in terms of its decisions. Warner Bros. Discovery goes “there there” trying to figure out its future on the subject of streaming as indicated by the new information. According to the Wall Street Journal, the entertainment giant has backtracked on its plan to merge Discovery+ and HBO Max into a single platform.

Well, a “half” backtrack since the new idea is to keep Discovery+ as a separate platform in addition to the not-so-combined joint platform, which would maintain the HBO Max catalog and most of Discovery+. A service, rumored to be called simply Max, about which we still don’t know more details.

So it seems that the team David Zaslav backtracks on one of Warner Bros. Discovery’s early new-age decisions. Last March 2022, the executive Gunnar Wiedenfels stated that the idea was to go towards the combined service to go for the «four quadrants “old-young-male-female”» demographics.

This new decision would come by the way fear of losing a good number of Discovery+’s 20 million subscribers who are reluctant to pay more for the combined platform. Currently, the monthly price of the first is $6.99 in the United States (3.99 euros in Spain) compared to $15.99 for HBO Max (8.99 in Spain).

Surely we will know more about this plan in two weeks, since Warner has scheduled for the day 23 of February your benefits conference, where it would be one of the points to be discussed. Another would be the launch of its FAST channel, in which we would see some of the series taken from the HBO Max catalog.
