The director of the recently released film in Spain, ‘M3GAN’, says he was inspired by Sam Raimi’s ‘Drag Me to Hell’ when he “decided” to reshoot some scenes to achieve the film’s PG-13 rating. In a new interview with Total Film and GamesRadar+, Gerard Johnstone, who previously directed the horror comedy ‘Housebound’, said that the challenge of toning down certain sequences made him be more creative in scary moments.

Johnstone claims that the change to avoid the R rating It wasn’t too much, but positive:

“Making it PG-13 was something that happened after I finished it, but it was always so close to PG-13 anyway that it seemed like a mistake not to accept it. I even remember thinking early on, ‘This could be PG-13, and some Some of my favorite movies like ‘Drag Me to Hell’ are. So we made the decision to go with that rating and actually reshot a couple of things.”

Starring Allison Williams and Violet McGraw, M3GAN centers on a robotic designer, who invents a mechanical companion to defend her newly orphaned niece and programs her to protect her from harm, both physical and emotional, but the doll becomes overprotective and begins to attack anyone it perceives as a threat.

“What really excited me is that when we reshot those scenes, they were more effective. It’s like, ‘Yeah, you have to cut at certain times,’ but it’s fun having to rely so much on sound and cues.”
