After delivering a colorful and humorous take on Thor, Chris Hemsworth reckons the God of Thunder’s next challenge in the MCU is to reimagine him with a darker tone.

Well goes the saying “Renew or die”, and that is what actor Chris Hemsworth has in mind, who does not hesitate to reinvent his interpretation of Thor, to give it a darker tone in case of returning to the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

In Thor and Thor: A Dark World, the God of Thunder showed a very serious side, in contrast to Thor: Ragnarok and Thor: Love and Thunder, where Odinson’s tone was focused on a more relaxed hero, favoring humor in these tapes.

Chris Hemsworth revealed in an interview with the Happy Sad Cofused podcast that if he returns to a new Marvel Studios movie, the Australian hopes to reinvent Thor, to give it a more dramatic tone.

“You look at Thor one and two, they were pretty similar. Ragnarok and Love & Thunder: similar. I think it’s just a matter of reinventing it”.

The actor stressed that this reinvention should steer Thor away down the path of comedy, a resource that Hemsworth himself acknowledged has been exhausted for the franchise.

“I don’t even know if I’m invited back. But if it were, I think it would have to be a drastically different version: tone, everything. Just for my own sanity”.

Hemsworth pointed out that in Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame he managed to take Thor to a different level than comedy, something he hopes will be repeated in a fifth God of Thunder tape.

“I’ve had a unique opportunity even with Infinity War and Endgame to do very drastic things with the character; I enjoy that, I like to keep people on their toes, it keeps me interested. And I’ve said this before: When it gets too familiar, I think there’s a risk of getting lazy.”.

Hemsworth reckons that if Marvel Studios calls him back, the Australian will again be cape-wearing and wielding Mjolnir and/or Stormbreaker by the end of Thor’s story.

“I’m completely open to that, if there’s something unique and fresh and unexpected to do with the character and the world. I have always loved the experience. I have been very grateful to have been able to do something different every time”.
