One of the things that makes Christmas magical is the long-awaited arrival of Santa Claus, since, with all the excitement of receiving a gift under his tree, all the children write a letter to Santa Claus, for the morning of December 25 wake up excited with the hope of finding the gifts they longed for throughout the year.
However, it is common that as children grow, little by little they stop believing and end up losing the illusion of waiting for Santa or, failing that, the Three Wise Men. That’s why when an adult kills magic by confessing to children that all the charm of Christmas doesn’t exist and that it’s really the parents who take care of everything, it’s considered cruelty.
Just like a Peruvian television presenter did, who at a charity event, with a microphone in hand, said in front of dozens of children that Santa Claus does not exist and that he is an invention of adults. The situation was recorded and shared on networks, causing annoyance and disgust among users.
The event occurred on December 13, in the district of San Juan de Lurigancho, in Lima, Peru, where the Peruvian actress and television presenter Sonia Mercedes Gisela Valcárcel Álvarez directed the already traditional event known as “la chocolatada”, a celebration which consists of having hot chocolate with children in peripheral areas during the month of December.

According to local media reports, the television host, also known as “La Señito”, took the microphone to give an introduction to the children’s charity event. During her speech, while she was talking about the true meaning of Christmas, it occurred to her to say that Santa does not exist, since it is something that parents invented to justify the appearance of gifts under the tree.
Merry Christmas! Christmas sometimes uses Santa Claus as a pretext. But you do know that Santa Claus doesn’t exist, right? He is something created by humans, he is a being that was created and with whom we do not disagree, because he is very good and we are happy.
– Sonia Mercedes Gisela Valcárcel Álvarez, Peruvian television presenter
The rest of Gisela Valcárcel’s speech was based on the biblical origin of the tradition about the birth of the baby Jesus and the December holidays. Finally, the presenter added that believing in Santa Claus is also a nice thing, but that attention should be focused on Christ’s birthday.
The recording did not take long to cause controversy and go viral on networks, where users did not take long to judge Mercedes Valcárcel for breaking the illusion of children like this.
