Although there is still a long way to go in this area, we must recognize the change for the better that fiction productions have experienced, in terms of representation it means. It is nice to be able to have an increasingly varied offer in this field, where LGTBI+ characters are not anecdotal cases or we have to take cover every time a lesbian couple comes out, with the certainty that one of the two will die in a moment to another.
Thus, this list serves as a sample of that series-loving diversity, in which we can find interesting series of all kinds of genres where there are LGTBI + characters. Evidently, they are not all that are but they are all that are.
‘With love, Victor’
It was born as a spin-off of ‘With Love, Simon’ (which it is not necessary to have seen, although some references are made) and brings us the story of Victor, a teenager who has to face that stage of change that is puberty, with first love, starting from scratch in another city… A light-hearted series of teenagers behaving as such, good-natured and without resorting to shady things. If you liked ‘Hearstopper’, you can’t miss it.
‘Poison’

If before we talked about smiling fictions, we move on to a less happy one because this series created by the Javis takes Cristina Ortiz “la Veneno” as the protagonist, who did not have an easy life. They tell us her story, from her childhood to her devastating end, while telling a story about how the conception of trans people has evolved in Spain and the importance of women like her in this process. In the words of the series itself: She had to run so that now they can walk.
‘Chucky’

A perfect example of the variety of projects with LGTBI+ content is this horror series that continues the “adventures” of the wicked Chucky. Apart from being a magnificent (and terrifying) sequel, the gay couple that ends up forming works perfectly as a counterpoint to the most macabre part of the plot. If something proves this series well, it is that a homophobic father is much scarier than any evil doll.

‘Our flag means death’

The comedy queer of the year. This hilarious pirate story has stolen our hearts, both for its endearing characters and for having one of the most beautiful LGTBI + love stories that we have been able to see in seriéfilo terrain. That slump you get when you watch a series where there are two characters who get along wonderfully and you’d love them to be together, but since they’re of the same gender, you know it’s not going to happen… well, it does. And what if it happens.
‘Gentleman Jack’

From the pirates we go to the historical brides and it is never a bad time to talk about Anne Lister, the famous landowner willing to take charge of her lands herself and whose biographical experiences have been adapted in this period drama. A fascinating series headed by a wonderful Suranne Jones.
‘Owl House’

All those people who have been shocked by a fleeting kiss in ‘Lightyear’, would surely gouge out their eyes with the looks these two little witches give each other. This magical series, created by Dana Terrace, is the Disney’s first starring an openly bisexual character and it couldn’t be more innocent and fun. We don’t want it to end yet.
‘Killing Eve’

The Ship, with capital letters, because if there is a couple that has given us life with its unresolved sexual tension, that’s Eve and Villanelle. This spy story is centered around the game of cat and mouse between an internationally known assassin and the secret agent who is after her… for whom she has a fascination that is out of this world. Although no season ever surpassed the first, they were always more than enough reason to watch it.
‘Pose’

We cannot make a list of LGTBI + series without mentioning one of the great Ryan Murphy. Although ‘The Assassination of Gianni Versace’ (which is streaming again) could have entered perfectly, in the end we have opted for this one, which narrates the origin of the ballsthe vogue and others key elements in the history of the group in the 80s-90sin the USA Be careful, because, although it has very beautiful moments, it is also a drama like the top of a pine tree, so prepare the box of tissues.
‘This shit is beyond me’

Another perfect example where LGTBI+ characters are well integrated, without the need to put a focus on it but treating it with a commendable naturalness and breaking some other cliché on the way. In this case, puberty manifests itself in our protagonist in the form of supernatural psychic powers and she will have to learn to control them. Despite being cancelled, it’s worth checking out.
‘given’

Too bad that, of all the BL animes (‘Boy’s Love’) that are made in Japan, only a few have reached platforms. One of the most popular is this anime that sensitively adapts Natsuki Kizu’s comic, about a music group that finds its new member in Mafuyu, a mysterious boy with a hypnotic voice. This first season deals with issues such as loss and brings us closer to the feelings of each member of the band.
‘Sense8’

If there is any representative series of the LGTBI + collective, that is ‘Sense8’. Not only because it is a great example of representation, but also because of its powerful message that claims diversity of all kinds (identity, gender, economic, ethnographic…) and empathy as a common language. This science fiction series about eight people connected to each other has taught us like few others what solidarity is and that unity is strength.
