It has been 25 years since Johnny Depp signed his first and only feature film to date as a director under the title of ‘The Brave’. Since then, the multidisciplinary artist has shot a handful of video clips, but after getting out of his notorious legal feud with Amber Heard on the right foot, he is ready to return with his second film as directorin which will double also in front of the cameras.
Back to the ring
This will be titled ‘Modigliani’and will narrate a part of the life of the painter and sculptor Amadeo Modigliani condensed in two days and set in Paris in 1916. The film is based on the play by Dennis McIntyrewhich has adapted the duo composed of Jerry and Mary Kromolowski —’El juramento’— to the screen, and is produced by Al Pacino and Barry Navidi.
Depp has thus announced the good news in a release:
“I am tremendously honored to bring to the screen the saga of the life of Mr. Modigliani. It was a life of great hardship that ended in triumph; a universally human story that all viewers can relate to.”
Navidi, for his part, has shed a little more light on the nature of feature films, which will start shooting in Europe in the spring of 2023.
“This project has been very close to Al’s heart. Al showed me the work ‘Modigliani’ many years ago and I instantly fell in love with it. This is a piece of Modi’s life, not a biography. It has been a dream of mine.” to work with Johnny again; he is a true artist with an incredible vision to bring this great story to the screen.”
Depp he hadn’t appeared in a feature film since ‘The Photographer from Mianmata’ —released in 2020—, and will play Modigliani after transforming into King Louis XV in Maïwenn’s ‘Jeanne du Barry’, which is currently in the process of filming.
