Prior to the release of Riddler: Year One, Paul Dano, author of the comic and interpreter of the villain in The Batman revealed if a spin-off is on the way
In October DC Comics launches Riddler: Year One, a comic written by Paul Dano, who played the villain in the movie The Batman, whose sequel has already been greenlit by Warner Bros, as well as a spin-off series of Penguin.

One of the most acclaimed aspects of The Batman is Paul Dano’s portrayal of the Riddler, and the actor himself has expressed his desire to reincarnate the character created by Bill Finger and Dick Sprang, either in the sequel to The Batman, or in a movie or spin-off series, to explore what his future is.
“If they wanted there to be one, it would probably be there. But I haven’t really given it much thought, and I find it curious that I’ve somehow spent even more time with this character.”, Dano declared in an interview with Comicbook.
For Dano, Riddler: Year One captures much of the essence and delivery that the same actor left in his performance as Edward Nashton.
“The essence of the comic comes from the work I did to give the performance… I’m sure I’m more into this than I’ve ever been for writing this comic,” said Dano. “But the essence, the emotional essence of this is something that I had already worked with. And the comic has become its own thing, but the essence comes from the work I did before the movie.”.
The actor, who also has experience as a filmmaker, said he is willing to play Edward Nashton / Riddler again if Matt Reeves or the people of Warner Bros request it.
“I have no idea if I’ll play the Riddler in live action again or not. But like I said, I loved doing The Batman, so I think I certainly would.”.
