This villain has been around for just under a decade in the Marvel Universe, where he was created by Esad Ribic and Jason Aaron, who introduced him in the pages of Thor: God of Thunder #2 (November 2012).
Blasphemies and tragedies
Gorr’s history is written based on tragedy. With a permanently injured leg, Gorr witnesses his parents’ devotion to Gods, which he cannot see, making him doubt their existence. His father dies from solar fever, and his mother loses her life protecting Gorr from dinosaur-like creatures.
Years later his wife, Arra dies in an earthquake, while she is pregnant, and their children suffer from the same condition as Gorr in the leg, something that leads the one who will become a murderer of Gods to commit blasphemous acts, such as burying their children. , something that their culture considered as an offense to the deities.
Walking through the desert of his planet, Gorr witnesses the fight between two gods, one dark and one golden, who asks him for help, which he refuses. After this reaction, the black god, who turns out to be a symbiote, joins Gorr to kill his opponent.
With the union of the All-Black symbiote, which was part of Knull, the God of Symbiotes, and who is also related to Venom, Gorr, he can mold the shape-shifting symbiote to form an armor around his body and produce weapons, which are limited only by your thoughts.
One of the weapons, the All-Black Necrosword, extends from his arms and is made of living darkness. The symbiote also provides him with the ability to regenerate.
Gorr has had numerous encounters with Thor over the centuries. One particular encounter in which he almost lost his life teaches him that his dreams are still possible, that he has something to live for, which is to kill all the gods.
This villain claims that he has killed the gods of jealousy, death, war, fear, chaos, poetry, and flowers.
Marvel Studios’ Thor: Love and Thunder finds Thor (Chris Hemsworth) on a journey unlike anything he’s ever faced: a search for inner peace. But Gorr the God Butcher (Christian Bale), a galactic assassin seeking the extinction of the gods, interrupts his plans.
To combat the threat, Thor enlists the help of the Valkyrie King (Tessa Thompson), Korg (Taika Waititi), and his ex-girlfriend Jane Foster (Natalie Portman), who, to Thor’s surprise, inexplicably wields his magical hammer, Mjolnir, like the Mighty Thor.
Directed by Taika Waititi, Thor: Love and Thunder will feature an ensemble cast headed by Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Natalie Portman as Jane Foster, Tessa Thompson as Vakyrie.
Also in attendance are Chris Pratt as Peter Quill/Star-Lord, Dave Bautista as Drax, Karen Gillen as Nebula, Russel Crowe as Zeus, and Christian Bale as Gorr the God Butcher.
