The World Health Organization (WHO) has once again delivered new news, confirming the end of the international emergency for monkeypox infections, which is estimated to have affected more than 87,000 people in 111 countries, leaving its I spend an approximate of 140 deaths.
The news was confirmed by Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, director general of the WHO, through a press conference in which it was explained that infections have reduced by 90 percent in the last three months.
Yesterday the Emergency Committee for mpox met and agreed a new plan, and recommended to me that the international outbreak of mpox no longer represents a public health emergency of international concern. I have accepted that advice and am pleased to declare that mpox is no longer a global public health emergency.
– Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, WHO Director General
The international monkeypox emergency comes to an end just six days after the UN announced the same with the covid-19 pandemic, this being a great step for the medical, scientific areas and the rest of humanity.
It should be noted that, as with covid-19, the removal of the maximum alert for monkeypox does not mean that the disease has been completely eradicated, but rather that its level of contagion has decreased, so that “it no longer represents a public health emergency of international scope.
Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus recommended continuing with the relevant sanitary measures and seeing a doctor if any of the symptoms of the disease are detected.
