Expectations have skyrocketed. Among the fans of the source material, but also among the new legion of followers that emerged after what is already considered one of the series of the year. All of them without exception wonder what to expect from the second season and especially when we will see it.
the journey continues
The initial season of The Last of Uswhich covered Billy and Ellie’s journey through a catastrophic American union, covered the entirety of the first video game. Therefore, logic suggests that the second season will do the same with the sequel. An assertion that is only partially correct. This has been confirmed by the co-creator of the show, Craig Mazin, confirming that the story will have some variants in relation to its original counterpart.
“We will show things, but it will be different, just like this season was different,” the creative explained to Variety . “Sometimes it will be radically different, and sometimes it will be barely different, but it will be different. It will be your own thing. It won’t be exactly like the game. It will be the show that Neil [Druckmann] and I want to do”.
The mention of the latter is no coincidence. This is, after all, the creator of the source material. That said, alterations to the source work should not be seen as a desecration, but rather as an evolution for the benefit of a different format. Of course, the creative duo has calmed the anxieties by ensuring that the rumors about a recast of Bella Ramsay, our incorrigible Ellie, are false.
“Let’s leave this alone,” Neil Druckmann said at the time in a interview . “The only reason we would consider a Bella recast is if she said, ‘I don’t want to work with you anymore.’ We could still force her back for the second season.”
