Everything promised to be joy for ‘Wendell and Wild’. After all, it was the first film directed by Henry Selick from ‘The Worlds of Coraline’, jordan peele participated in the script and supposed the reunion of the comic duo Key and Peele. None of that has prevented it from becoming Netflix’s biggest flop so far this year.
Let’s remember that recently we were talking about the fiasco that was ‘Blonde’ on Netflix, because the great movie starring Anne of Arms debuted with just 37.34 million hours played in its first days on the platform. Well, ‘Wendell and Wild’ hasn’t even reached 3.94 million hours, well iIt has even been left out of the weekly Top 10 of the platform.
It’s hard not to remember the almost non-existent advertising support that ‘Wendell and Wild’ have had on the platform. It’s hard to believe that they haven’t found a way to sell the latest from the director of ‘The Nightmare Before Christmas’ in which he also collaborates with the author of ‘Let me out’ or ‘Nope!’.
It is true that the budget of ‘Wendell and Wild’ has not transcended, but ‘The Worlds of Coraline’ already cost 60 million in 2009 and I doubt that it was cheaper. I really hope that with the celebration of Halloween the data has improved somewhat – what we have covers November 24-30 – but everything suggests that the new Selick is going to fall into oblivion with amazing speed. And he doesn’t deserve it.
