In this era in which a series is canceled when you least expect it, it seems that we have a halo of hope for 2023 and that is that Warner Bros. Discovery assures that the severe mass cancellation policy that he executed in the last months of 2022 has ended.
A policy motivated by the seizure of power of David Zaslav as CEO and his odyssey to clean up the company’s accounts. This has led to unexpected moves such as the cancellation of a ‘Batgirl’ about to be finished, of ‘Minx’ in its last days of filming for season 2 or of ‘Westworld’ for a season 5.
The house of the canceled
That and the catalog withdrawal of some of the HBO Max originals have filled lines of digital ink within Warner’s new business plan. That era of mass cancellation has come to an end As stated by Gunnar Wiedenfelds, CFO of the company:
“It has taken us a bit longer to make sure we did it properly. We have found new homes for some of the titles. That is why it has taken us six or seven months. But I think we’ve come up with great solutions and more importantly, we’re done with that chapter.”
In this way, it seems that the cleaning of the closet that Zaslav spoke of a few weeks ago has ended and the top executives of Warner are already they feel that the situation is under control: “I think the team has laid a great foundation and I am very excited about the growth from now on”complete Wiedenfelds.
If what they say from Warner is true, we can breathe easy in the face of certain security that our favorite series will not be canceled overnight. Which does not mean that we will not have casualties this coming year (it is still business).
