On more than one occasion we have heard someone say that “love can do everything”; People who believe this say that the strength of this feeling is so great that they can achieve what they set out to do and face any adversity. This Ukrainian couple may be the perfect example of this belief, since they got married in the middle of the war their country is facing against Russia.
The love story between Anastasia Gracheva and Anton Sokolov became a symbol of hope in the midst of the war that Ukrainians are experiencing, after getting married in the midst of the rubble of what was previously a shopping center in Kharkiv, Ukraine.
The relationship between Anastasia and Anton began long before the war began, she worked as a nurse in an oncology clinic and he had his own dental clinic. At the beginning of the confrontation with Russia, both had the option of taking refuge in another country, but decided to stay to attend to all those who might need medical attention during the bombing.
So it was that both improvised an infirmary and pharmacy in an abandoned cafeteria, where they are in charge of distributing medicine and providing medical attention to those who need it.
Not only did they make the decision to stay to help, but they also didn’t want to cancel their wedding plans. For this reason, despite the constant uncertainty they face, and trying to take advantage of every second together in the face of the discouraging panorama of their country, both said “yes, I accept” on April 4.
The moving story of these happy couples was revealed by the Ukrainian researcher and fighter against disinformation, Maria Avdeeva, who shared a short review of the emotional moment through Twitter.

A wedding in a city under constant bombardment would look like this: a photo zone against the background of a destroyed historic building and a bombed-out city center, a ceremony in the subway. This is a strong message to the world: Kharkiv is resisting and living.
In addition, Maria shared images that show how the couple’s photo session was, which took place in the rubble of a train station that was destroyed by constant Russian bombing.
Through their photographs, the couple showed the world a little of the destroyed and the ruins in which Kharkiv, the second largest city in Ukraine, is located.
The outfits The couple’s wedding was quite particular, Anastasia wore a white dress with tulle combined with a black leather jacket and platform boots that matched her jacket. On her head, she wore a headdress full of colorful flowers from which she hung a white veil. On her part, the groom brought some jeans black, white shirt and a jacket the same color as his pants.
The happy couple have no plans to go on their honeymoon anytime soon, although they would like to one day vacation on a beach surrounded by palm trees to sunbathe. While that happens, for now they have a war to fight and violent days to face.
Despite the fact that the wedding took place while the regional governor of Kharkiv, Oleh Synyehubov, reported an attack on the city and its surroundings, this did not prevent several inhabitants from witnessing the great love between Anastasia and Anton.
The loving act of the couple is a message of hope for the Ukrainians, in which they make it clear that, even in the darkest moments, love will always be a very good option.
