Netflix returns to the fray with another young adult adventure where they continue to cultivate that sector of the audience so that their parents do not cancel the account. Out jokes ‘Enola Holmes 2’ keeps a youthful spirit in his approach to mysteries and detective investigationcreating family entertainment while still having slightly gimmicky intrigue.
An approach that, of course, does not belong exclusively to the franchise led by Millie Bobby Brown, as we can discover in the different proposals that we will highlight below. A movie and a couple of series where there were also teenagers or young adults in charge of investigating a mystery that offer a fresh perspective on gender.
‘The secret of the pyramid’ (‘Young Sherlock Holmes’, 1985)
Address: Barry Levinson. Distribution: Nicholas Rowe, Alan Cox, Sophie Ward, Anthony Higgins, Susan Fleetwood.
A terrific adventure film with another young Holmes that has gotten a recent resurgence for the little concealed influence it has had on a phenomenon like the one in Harry Potter. You don’t have to be the best detective in the world to see the connections, just because its screenwriter is Chris Columbus, ultimately commissioned to direct the first film of the young magician.
Beyond suspicious inspirations from JK Rowling and Columbus recycling itself, Barry Levinson creates a first-class family cinema, which appeals to all audiences with elegance and entertainment. Show that you don’t have to choose between the two, putting on a remarkable technical gala and an endearing adventure.

‘Veronica Mars’ (2004-2007)
Creator: RobThomas. Distribution: Kristen Bell, Enrico Colantoni, Jason Dohring, Percy Daggs III, Teddy Dunn.
The golden age prior to the supposed golden age of the series that we are experiencing left us with some phenomena that still have a very warm memory in our memory. ‘Veronica Mars’ was one of those two-thousand-year phenomena that made uninhibited youthful fun and he didn’t need more than that to beat us.
The series that made Kristen Bell a star was a great little achievement on television oriented towards the young adult sector, combining drama of that style with a well-measured detective mystery. Perhaps the best successor in spirit to ‘Buffy the Vampire Slayer’, which has a fabulous central character and a wonderful intrigue that manages to maintain a certain consistency in its seasons of more than twenty episodes.

‘Home Before Dark’ (2020-2021)
creators: Dana Fox, Dara Resnik Creasey. Distribution: Brooklynn Prince, Jim Sturgess, Abby Miller, Kylie Rogers, Adrian Hough.
Here we find a more or less direct successor to what ‘Veronica Mars’ sought to do, but with a more openly youthful protagonist. The precocious Brooklynn Prince leads this modest Apple TV+ series where a curious and tenacious young woman he moves with his father to a modest rural community where there has been a mysterious unsolved case.
With a somewhat more dramatic and serious patina imposed by this era of Peak TV, ‘Home Before Dark’ manages to have enthusiasm and charm typical of a youth series. It also has intrigue and conviction that it conveys well through its protagonist, creating a series that, although imperfect, is attractive and fresh that is worth giving a chance.
