A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away… Patty Jenkins had been years after making her ‘Rogue Squadron’: At the end of 2020, the director of ‘Wonder Woman’ spoke about the approach she wanted to give to her film and how they were already working on the script. But the years have passed and now Disney has put it in a drawer, according to Variety. come on, what Jenkins is going to be left, a priori, without her work on star pilots, something that she herself intuited: in December he already commented that “I didn’t know if it would be done or not”. It is not the only one that Disney has shelved.
Less projects, more lightsabers
At Disney they are seeing the winds of change and are trying to adapt however they can: the tactic of giving a lot and harassing the viewer with Marvel and ‘Star wars’ has not worked so well as they believed and now it’s time to try to get the viewer to miss the franchises. In the superheroic, the series will be spaced out more than they expected, and in the case of the galactic saga… it’s time to pull the scissors.
AND Not even Kevin Feige himself has escaped the snip, which in September 2019 came to light as one of the new authors of ‘Star wars’ in cinema. Michael Waldron, the screenwriter for ‘Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness’, took over the script in May 2022, and commented that it wouldn’t be a sequel, a prequel or anything like that: pure freedom. But Feige’s responsibilities with Marvel mean that, for the moment, his project has also disappeared, at least until he frees himself from the superheroic ties.
Something similar happens with Rian Johnson: Lucasfilm wants him to do his trilogy, but he’s very involved with ‘Punches in the back’ and ‘Poker face’. Maybe in the future, but for now it’s not going to happen. What does this leave us with then? With a gap, in December 2025, for the film of a director as loved as hated: Taika Waititi (‘Thor: Love and Thunder’, ‘Jojo Rabbit’), who apparently also wants to star in it. Too much Taika overdose for ‘Star Wars’?
Although it is not official, It seems Lucasfilm has also asked Oscar-winning documentary filmmaker Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy for a film., who has already directed a couple of episodes of ‘Ms Marvel’. If you’re not too excited, maybe Damon Lindelof (‘Lost’, ‘Watchmen’) and Justin Britt-Gibson (‘Counterpart’) will let you know. The Star Wars Celebration will be held in London on April 7and it is possible that there we will know a little more about this tidal wave from another galaxy.
