The world number 3 tennis player suffered the injury after his participation in the Australian Open final that he lost in January to Serbian Novak Djokovic.
“It is with great disappointment that I must announce my withdrawal from the Abierto Mexicano de Tenis due to a shoulder injury I suffered after the Australian Open. Although this setback is disappointing, I am choosing to focus on the positive, I will use this time to rest, recover and return stronger than ever”, published the 24-year-old tennis player on his social networks.
“I will continue working hard and striving to achieve my goals, and I am sure that I will have many more opportunities to compete in Mexico in the future. I want to wish all the players of the Abierto Mexicano de Tenis the best of luck, I know they are going to put together a amazing show for the fans and I will cheer them on from afar,” he added.
The Spanish Carlos Alcaraz, number two in the world, the Norwegian Casper Ruud (4 ATP), the American Taylor Fritz (7 ATP) and the Danish Holger Rune (10 ATP) lead the list of players who will play the tournament next week plays on hard surface courts in the resort of Acapulco.
