The series of starwars at Disney+ they have had the courtesy to move us away from the main plots of the movies. Not much, because we are still in the same era decade up, decade down (‘Andor’ and ‘The Mandalorian’ are clear examples). That is why the arrival of ‘The Acolyte’ is refreshing, which promises to explore a quite different era.
An era that is beginning explore in the form of comics and books and now in television format. So let’s review everything we know about this new series, which will soon hit our screens.
The history
With the usual secrecy of Disney + productions (at least with its megafranchises), we still don’t know the plot details of ‘The Acolyte’. yes we know that it is a mystery thriller set in the last days of the High Republicabout a hundred years before ‘The Phantom Menace’.
On the other hand, the intention is to treat the story from the point of view of the sith, or at least that is the viewpoint you want to explore Leslye Headland (‘Russian Doll’) as creator of the series. Additionally, the word “acolyte” usually designates apprentices who are initiated into the dark path of the force under the supervision of a Sith Lord.
What is the High Republic

We move away for a change in the audiovisual of the Skywalker saga, from which Leslye Headland (‘Russian Doll’) flees, as he declared this past May. But what exactly is the High Republic?
The High Republic is the time in the history of the Star Wars galaxy that right now is exploring Lucasfilms and Disney in the Expanded universe (mostly through books and comics). For the most veteran of the place (you know the sweep that Disney did), we would find ourselves with the final centuries of the Old Republic.
This described as an era of Renaissance, with the largest expansion of the Galactic Republic, with a presence throughout the outer quadrant and a golden age for the Jedi. A bright time but in which corruption and the Sith are still present.
Something that Headland is especially interested inwho always wanted to explore what started to go wrong for us to get to the political situation in ‘The Phantom Menace’: «How did we get a Sith lord infiltrated the Senate without the Jedi catching him? What went wrong? What were the scenarios that led us to that moment?» wondered the screenwriter.
I don’t think we’re in for a galactic ‘Game of Thrones’, but it can be interesting to see those points where the Sith, being clearly overwhelmedthey begin their climb:
«My approach is as a fan who was very involved in the role-playing games that the Expanded Universe feeds on. It hit me really hard in the ’90s, and then I started ‘The Clone Wars’. He knew the events very well. And I thought, “I think if you want to explore Star Wars from the perspective of the bad guys, the best time to do it is when they’re clearly outnumbered. When they’re the outcasts, for lack of a better term.” So this would be that time.”
The cast

Four are the names that, at the moment, are confirmed for this new adventure in the lore starwarsian: Amandla Stenberg (‘The Hunger Games’), Jodie Turner Smith (‘Anne Boleyn’), Lee Jung-jae, who has just won an Emmy for best leading actor for ‘The Squid Game’ and Manny Hyacinth (‘The Good Place’).
At the moment, the details of the characters are under summary secret.
The filming
It is planned that ‘The Acolyte’ go into production in the coming monthsmore specifically at the end of 2022. Of course, beyond knowing that Leslye Headland will be the main writer, we have no details of which directors will be in charge.
Premiere
Although there is no specific release date yet, this new series is expected to land in 2023. Taking into account that season 3 of ‘The Mandalorian’ will land on Disney + in February, we can conjecture that ‘The Acolyte’ would arrive in the second half of that year.
