Antonio Mauri Villariño, better known as Toño Mauri, announced that he contracted COVID-19 again, a disease that put him on the verge of death in 2020, when he had to be induced into a coma and then undergo a double lung transplant to save his life.
This is his third time with the virus because in September 2022 he also fell ill with COVID-19. The actor communicated the situation he is going through on Thursday, June 1, through his Instagram stories where he posted an alarming photo.
“COVID again”, Toño wrote about the photo in which he can be seen lying down with his eyes practically closed and wearing a mask.
After his announcement on social networks, the actor was contacted by the “De Primera Mano” program and spoke with them by phone, telling how he is doing and the risks he runs as a transplant patient.
“There are medications, treatments, but it doesn’t stop being annoying, it doesn’t stop being, in the case of us who have a transplant, who take immunosuppressants, we have a disadvantage there. It is possible that you could get any kind of disease”Mauri said.
What risk is Toño Mauri running due to his double transplant?
Although he assured that the disease was detected in time and his life should not be in danger, he did stress that transplant patients are more prone to complications.
“The truth is that it is a discomfort that is constant and that does worry a little about the transplant and immunosuppressants. It makes you more sensitive to any disease, it is still a little thing there that you have to pay attention to “

The actor and businessman assured that having low defenses due to being a transplant patient makes him more sensitive to any kind of virus, not just COVID-19, so constantly taking care of his health is a priority for him.
Toño assured that “People think that there is no longer COVID”but the reality is that it is a disease that continues to generate infections, although the World Health Organization (WHO) no longer considers it a pandemic.
How did you end up with a double lung transplant?
The first time that the singer was also infected was in June 2020, when the pandemic had only started three months around the world. Due to the respiratory complications she suffered, he was admitted to a hospital.
Toño Mauri spent four months in a coma and when he woke up, he no longer had mobility or muscle mass, he had a tracheotomy and could not eat.
“There was no hope for me anymore, everything was over. They had already told my wife to take me home, that they were waiting for me maybe a couple of weeks (to die)”he told Jorge Ramos in ‘Al Punto’ in February of this year.
Toño’s health was at a point where he was not a candidate for a transplant due to his weakness, but against all odds he managed to recover to be able to endure a surgical intervention of this magnitude. Replacing his lungs was the only hope he had for life.
“God was with me. He always told her: ‘Give me your hand, don’t let go and come with me.’ He did it, I felt his presence and he gave me peace. After 10 days they told me that he already had lungs ”he indicated in an interview with ‘Despierta América’ a while ago.
After being seriously ill and receiving two lungs, Mauri left the hospital in February 2021, eight months after being admitted for his contagion of COVID-19.
In September 2022, the actor was infected and also announced it on social networks.
“Please don’t let your guard down! Do not trust! (To me), with my four vaccines and reinforcements, he gave me again ”, he said at the time.
