Netflix has already provided the audience data for last week and one of the most striking details is that a science fiction film with time travel has become the most watched non-English language film on the platform during those days. I mean Italian production ‘It was time’.
A little Italian mishap
A remake of the great Australian film ‘A Little Setback’, ‘About About Time’ tells the story of a workaholic man who has serious problems enjoying his life beyond his work obligations. After a party for his 40th birthday, wakes up the next day a year later with no memory of what happened in that period. Since then, time will pass much faster than normal for him, also being unable to remember those moments that should have marked his life.
It is true that there are many films that have mixed time travel and romantic comedy. We all remember ‘Stuck in Time’, and there are also highly esteemed titles out there like ‘A Matter of Time’ or ‘Palm Springs’, but ‘A Little Mishap’ had a special touch knowing how to balance its funniest side with an unexpected charge of sadness of the most successful, also counting on an inspired interpretation of Rafe Spall. For now I have not been able to see its Italian adaptation, but I have my doubts that it is up to the task.
What has become clear is that ‘Ya era hora’ has caught the attention of the public, because last week it added to Netflix 11.55 million hours played, more than any other film not spoken in English. If we include those spoken in that language, then it would rank first, with ‘Luther: Night Falls’ standing out above the rest with 69.54 million hours played.
