Aston Villa goalkeeper Robin Olsen was assaulted and one of the goals split due to the weight of spectators climbing on it.
City were found guilty by the FA for “failure to ensure that spectators left in an orderly manner and resorted to threatening and violent behaviour, invading the pitch after the final whistle”.
The situation was reproduced in other fields in England in the last weeks of the 2021/2022 season.
Everton was fined 300,000 pounds (6.66 million pesos, 333,000 dollars) in September for similar acts.
And does Liga MX have fines for field invasion?
In the case of the Mexican league, the measures are directed towards the clubs that are part of Liga MX and not towards individuals, despite the fact that there have been cases in which fans have come to attack players.
The regulations indicate that the clubs are responsible for establishing order in the stadiumfor which if any measure were presented towards someone attending a match it would be by the club, because the only immediate action is to leave the individual in the hands of the Public Ministry to proceed according to the corresponding local law.
The Mexican Soccer Federation has a section in which it deals with cases of pitch invasion. Article 56 indicates that “The club that is reported for invasion of the public to the field or field of play before, during or after the game, with or without aggression to the arbitration body, the match commissioner, players, officials or members of the Technical Body will be sanctioned. The entry of people to the field and / or field of play in cases of emergency does not constitute an invasion of the field, “says the federation document.
“The sanction to which the Club that is reported for field invasion will be credited, will be determined as follows:
In case less than 5 people enter the court, the responsible Club will be subject to a fine of 1 thousand to 3 thousand UMA`s and a veto notice.. In the event that 5 or more people enter the court, the responsible Club will be subject to a fine of 3,000 to 6,000 UMA’s, and at least one party veto the Stadium,” the document states.
The UMA unit is equivalent to 96.22 pesos in this 2022, this value corresponds to the economic reference in pesos to determine the amount of the payment of the obligations and assumptions provided for in the federal laws, of the states, as well as in the legal provisions that emanate of all the above, according to the INEGI.
Notwithstanding the foregoing, in order to determine the corresponding sanction, the Disciplinary Commission, at its sole discretion and regardless of the number of fans that invade the field, must analyze the conduct displayed by them, that is, if they attacked or caused injuries (to Players, members of the Technical Staff and Match Officials, among others) if they caused disturbances, etc., in those cases the responsible Club will be subject to a fine of 4 thousand to 7 thousand UMA’s, and at least one game of I veto the Stadium, being able to increase the severity of the sanctions referred to above,” the article concludes.
Therefore, based on these criteria, the fines were given to Club Querétaro for the events that occurred at the Corregidora Stadium in the capital of that state on March 5 in a match against Club Atlas, a different proportion with that of the City as well as the criteria.
