Do you know that there is an association called The Most Beautiful Towns in Spain? In case the answer is no, we will inform you about it. This organization has been operating in our country since 2011 with the aim, according to its website, of promoting preferably rural areas and small municipalities.
The first place where this initiative was launched was in France in 1982 and since then the format has been exported to different countries such as Canada, Switzerland, Germany, Japan or Lebanon.
In Spain each year a small number of municipalities that meet the requirements imposed by the association join and currently it is made up of 111 towns.
Reviewing the members We have set our sights on Castilla-La Macha and more specifically on Alcalá del Júcarin Albacete, which has been part of this list since 2014, a year before Frigiliana, the town of Malaga that looks like Mykonos, got it.
The charm of a small corner of Albacete
Among the benefits of Alcalá del Júcar are its imposing castle, yes, without the peculiarity of the circular de Palma, one of National Geographic’s favorites, and its hanging houses, because yes, there are them in more places in the region apart from in Cuenca.
It has just over 1,000 inhabitants and was declared a Historic-Artistic Site in 1982, a distinction regulated by the Ministry of Culture.
The town, which receives its name from the river that runs through it, also has the attractions of its cave houses and an incomparable natural environment thanks to places such as the Tranco del Lobo, the Hoz del Júcar park or the Molinar reservoir.
