One of the changes that Black Panther: Wakanda Forever made in its plot is the change of the kingdom of Namor, who from ruling Atlantis, will now be the monarch of Talocan
Phase four of the Marvel Cinematic Universe will close with the premiere of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, a film that will introduce us to Namor, played by Tenoch Huerta, in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, with a series of changes compared to the comic.
Namor was introduced in the pages of Marvel Comics #1 (Aug. 31, 1939), and in modern Marvel era the Sub-Mariner returned in the pages of Fantastic Four #4 (May, 1963).
In the vignettes, Namor is the ruler of the kingdom of Atlantis, a kingdom hidden in the depths of the ocean, where his subjects have blue skin, except for Namor, due to his half-human nature.
In 2022 Namor will finally make his big screen debut within the plot of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. Where notable changes will be presented with respect to what has been read in the comics.
Meet Talocan
For the production of Marvel Studios, Ryan Coogler chose to change details in the story of Namor, who will now be the ruler of the kingdom of Talocan, a civilization inspired by Mesoamerican civilizations, especially the Aztec and Mayan.
The appearance of Atlantis in the Distinguished Competition is one of the reasons why filmmaker Ryan Coogler chose to exploit Central American cultures, whose remains receive thousands of visitors every year, which contributes to the local economy.
Even in the trailer for Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, Mesoamerican pyramids can be seen, inspired by those located in regions such as Teotihuacán and Chichen Itza.
The name of Talocan is inspired by Tlalocan, the paradise ruled by Tlaloc where legends say that the water necessary for life comes from. In this paradise inhabit the souls of people who died of drowning or leprosy.
Also, this version of Namor will use some Mayan and Aztec details in his outfit, such as the finishes on his arms, belt, and necklace.
Marvel Studios has begun to give more space to Latino protagonists, such as the case of Xochitl Gomez, who plays America Chavez in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. And now Tenoch Huerta will be in charge of carrying the mantle of Namor.
Talocan and Namor rekindle their rivalry with Wakanda
Queen Ramonda, Shuri, M’Baku, Okoye, and the Dora Milaje fight to protect their nation from the world powers that intervene in the aftermath of King T’Challa’s death. As the people of Wakanda struggle to embrace their next chapter, the heroes They must band together with the help of the Dogs of War, Nakia and Everett Ross, and forge a new path for the kingdom of Wakanda.
Black Panther: Wakanda Forever will feature the return of Letitia Wright, Winston Duke, Lupita N’yongo and Angela Basset. Mexican Tenoch Huerta joins as Namor, the Submariner.
Written and directed by Ryan Coogler, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever will be released on November 11, 2022.
