Just a few days after the premiere of the long-awaited film ‘The Little Mermaid’, it was revealed that the music star Harry Styles he would have been one of the favorites to give life to the iconic character of ‘Prince Eric’. However, the famous decided to decline the offer for reasons of force majeure.
With the open secret going around social networks, the producer of this live-action found it impossible to avoid questions about it during a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly.
During his talk with the news portal, Rob Marshall revealed that at the time both he and the rest of the filmmakers met with the former member of One Direction to make him a formal proposal and that he become the acclaimed fictional prince.
To his surprise, Harry Styles declined the offer immediately with the idea that his professional interests, especially in the world of acting, are focused on projects of a more “dark” nature.
“We meet with him. He was lovely, what a wonderful guy. At the end of the day he really felt that he wanted to go out and do the movies that he ended up doing, which were a little bit darker.“Said the producer, referring to the recent projects starring the famous (“Eternals”, “Don’t Worry Darling” and “My Policeman”).
In addition to this, he said that from his perspective, the interpreter of “Sign of the Times” and “Watermelon Sugar” refused to become “Prince Eric” because he was looking for his first characters on the big screen not to be part of musicals due to that he wanted to separate his facet as a singer from that of an actor.
“For a lot of young musicians like Harry… you’re trying to break through and you don’t want to be seen as a singer, necessarily.Marshall explained.
