Thousands of people throughout Latin America mourn the sudden death of the actor and comedian Xavier López “Chabelo”who for more than four decades filled homes with laughter through his films and famous television program ‘En Familia con Chabelo’.
It is for this reason that while the public patiently awaits the news of a possible tribute by the present body, Dozens of fans decided to go to the famous monument with which the “Friend of all children” was commemorated years ago.
And it is that said honor was part of the “Great Values of Mexico” initiative, for which five characters were chosen to perfectly represent this concept. In the case of Xavier López “Chabelo”, his caricatured bronze sculpture was a work made by the sculptor Óscar Ponzzanelli.
This achievement was very special for the famous man, who was able to appreciate the work done by Ponzzanelli in a ceremony that crowded the surroundings.
We cannot ignore the fact that beyond his work as an actor, the statue celebrated the character who was so loved by Mexicans thanks to the program “En Familia con Chabelo”which was broadcast every Sunday on Channel 2.
The iconic sculpture is located in Parque de los Venados, south of Mexico City, on Avenida División del Norte, Colonia Portales Norte, between Municipio Libre (Eje 7 Sur) and Doctor José María Vértiz avenues, in the Benito Juárez mayor’s office.
